A Between Times Meditation

Have you ever watched in wonder as someone makes his or her way across so fine a high wire that you can hardly make the wire out? Sometimes that is how a filled calendar appears--requiring a high wire act to get from one side of the week--or day--to the other. What is required is balance, and patience, and patience, and trust.

A Between Time Meditation

A between time meditation:
Sunday, between Saturday and Monday,
Between daylight and nightlight,
Between teaching English and leading a small group Bible study,
And so unequal to that as well,
That more than one task to which I am unequal
And daunted
And blessed by
And stretched by
And praying over
And prayed for over
Knowing that while I remain unequal
I will remain prayed for
I will remain upheld not only by other humans but--
Wonder of wonders!--
By God Himself;
And between times as I meditate,
It is He on whom I will think and will dwell
For with His aid all will go well
As all has

When a friend read this, she told me the story of seeing a man who had lost his power of speech still participated in a worship hymn if only with his eyes and movement of his head, rising to his feet for the song, "Stand Up, Stand Up for Jesus," as if it attention. Hearing that made me grateful that for now I still have my voice, and shamed me for the times I have not used it to praise the Lord.

Wordless moments come;
Wordless moments come and go,
While heart praise remains.

While heart praise remains,
Wordless moments come and go,
Wordless days and nights.

Wordless days and nights;
Words of heart praise rise silent,
Wordless days of rest.

It is easy to get ahead of where we should be as Proverbs 19:2 indicates. God's provisions for us are, as Luke 11:3 points out, for this day our daily bread. And this is not just the physical bread but, more importantly, that which feeds our spirits. As Jesus said, Man shall not live by bread along, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God (MAtt. 4:4).

Daily Grace

God gives me grace daily
When I take of the living bread,
Strength as I need it,
Wisdom for my plans
From the living Head.

God gives me grace
For all I face,
But not until the time.
God gives me grace, and fully,
As is His good design.

I don't know what will face me
If any days will come,
But know that He will meet my needs,
He's done the needful sum.

God's grace is good and daily and sufficient as He planned,
And all I need to have it is
Stretch out a prayerful, obedient hand.

Tuesday's slice of bread

In Exodus 16, we learn of God's provision of manna for His people. He provided precisely what each needed, exactly when they needed it, and for the years they needed it. When hoarding was tried, as a matter of unbelief, God dealt with that too. Since Garry and I relocated to CA., God has provided exactly the extra amount of work for us precisely when we have needed the extra income. To me that is MERCY LIKE MANNA

Mercy like manna
Is fresh with the dawn
Is substance without limit
For today.

Before the sun shows, the manna falls;
Before the need shows, the mercy avails.

Mercy like manna
Falls in the night,
Appears in the dawn,
Provides succor in the desert,
For today.
