He Who Sits in the Heavens

He who sits in the heavens
Laughs at those who oppose His rule,
Leads those who submit to it,
Loves those whom He has called His own,
Listens to the prayers of His people.
He who sits in the heavens
Reigns in holiness,
Rules unchanging as Prophet, Priest, King,
Returns at a predetermined time.
He who sits in the heavens
Acts tirelessly for
His glory and the good of His people.
He who sits in the heavens
Ought receive all praise and all glory
For His great goodness and mercy to the sons of men.

A look at some verses from the Psalms to comfort and to encourage

Psalm 23 is familiar to many. Numbers have memorized it. It often appears in funerals as well as other events.

Just now, let us take a brief look at this verse: "Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for You are with me. Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me" (23:4; NAS).

Recently several have walked through this valley, husbands and fathers, hard-working men whose lives were focused on pleasing the Lord. And their families grieve. But here is comfort.

As He was with their loved ones, so He is with the bereaved. So they fear no evil. So His rod and His staff--difficulty and direction--comfort them.

"A father of the fatherless and a judge for widows, is God in His holy habitation. God makes a home for the lonely" (Psalm 68:5-6a; NAS).

For others, there is this verse from Psalm 90:
"So teach us to number our days, that we may present to You a heart of wisdom" (90:12; NAS).

Considering Disappointments

Disappointments are part of life, like it or not, and how we respond to them is what matters.

When we put all of our eggs in the basket labeled "human beings," we will inevitably be disappointed.

People may not intend to be misunderstood, but they are.

People may not intend to hurt, but they do.

People may not intend to injure, but still they do.

People may not intend what happens, but still it happens.

As long as we seek our contentment, joy, happiness, in human relationships. we will reap some disappointment.

Thankfully there is One who will never disappoint, never disillusion;

One who calls for us to come to Him, to bring our burdens, our sorrows;

One who when necessary will discipline His own.

Never will He disappoint, for He has appointed all we experience, all the days He has ordained for us.
