Temporal

Temporal
Temporal though treasured
What comes to mind?
After visiting the orthopedist today
After calling my primary care doctor
Mobility is one thing I find
I treasure.
Thankful for as much as I have
Even with pain accompanying the same
All I want is to honor His Name.
And then there are the plumbing issues
And sinuses calling for multiple tissues
Which cause me to yearn all the more
For the eternal home, that dwelling
God is creating even now
That eternal residence as perfect
As He is.
Temporal residences this body, this home
Eternal that body, that home
And all the more treasured
As God has measured
And is the Builder and Maker

Reflections and Realities

Reflections and Realities
Some time back I set out a seven year plan based in part on Psalm 91; maybe you read those entries.  This afternoon I had to do a review of that plan.  It isn't because I am that much older but because my body is not what it used to be, even a couple of years ago.  Whatever the reason, I am thankful to have been as functional as I have been as long as I have been.  I don't think I'll be folding up my tent any time soon (see 2 Cor. 4:16-5:8) but these aches and pains are reminding me that day is closer than it used to be.  Lord, may I be useful until the end You have ordained for me, for Your glory.

Thinking Ahead and Remembering Back

Thinking Ahead and Remembering Back
As the water closes over
The vigorously thrown stone
And its place is remembered no more
So is the passing of all lives
Whether of the famous or the unknown
Note is made
And
Note is forgotten
And this is the way of all for all time
From time past to time future
Ripples are real yes but temporal as well
Pay no attention to the ripples of lives
But only to the flowing water which encompasses and covers them

Actively Dying

Actively Dying
That's what a friend's family was told she was doing.
And that expression got me to thinking.
Actively dying--
Aren't we all?
At different rates and
We'll be done
At different times but
Since Adam and Eve
Everyone born starts
Actively dying
(Assuming they are given the chance to be born)
And for all practical purposes Scriptually speaking
We are dead at birth unless
Christ gives us that second birth
And if you don't know what I mean start by reading
Genesis 3, Ephesians 2, and 1 Corinthians 15
And John (Gospel and Letters of)

Thinking about mortality

Thinking about mortality
Thinking about mortality as
More deaths are announced and
More grave illness pronounced and
The sands of my time seem to run
Faster and faster while
I move more slowly--
Kind of opposites occuring simultaneously--
I take refuge in
The Unchanging One
And
His Unchanging Word
And
Am comforted
And
Am strengthened
"He leads me in green pastures, besides still waters, restores my soul"
Rest in Him alone O my soul

Treasure in Jars of Clay

Treasure in Jars of Clay
We have this treasure in jars of clay--
Common
Breakable
Replaceable
Interchangeable--
Because what matters is
What we hold, not
Who we are and
Let the Potter create us and
Trust the Owner to use us and
Simply serve as chosen to
Rejoicing to be His
(written today in response to 2 Corinthians 4:6)
